What is Upneeq?

Upneeq is a prescription medication that is designed to address acquired blepharoptosis, a condition that’s responsible for upper eyelid drooping. The active agent in Upneeq is oxymetazoline hydrochloride, a vasoconstrictor. Vasoconstriction is the process of constricting blood vessels, which lifts the eyelids and improves the overall appearance of the eye region.

Upneeq is a topical ophthalmic solution (administered in the form of eye drops) that is applied once a day. It is recommended that patients apply only one drop in each affected eye in the morning.

How does it work?

Upneeq is a type of eye drop that is administered once a day (in each eye). It works by causing the Muller’s muscle in the upper eyelid to contract, lifting the eyelid. Trials have indicated that the eyedrops can achieve a lift of approximately 1 to 3 millimeters.

The effects of the treatment can be perceived in just 5 to 10 minutes after application, and the results can last for up to 12 hours. It is vital that patients follow the dosage instructions prescribed to them by their practitioner to ensure safe and effective use.
