Commonly referred to as a “boob job,” breast augmentation, or mammoplasty, uses breast implants or a transfer of fat from one part of your body to another to enhance the size or fullness of your breasts. Whether you’re looking to restore lost volume after a weight loss or pregnancy, breast augmentation helps improve symmetry and self-confidence. Breast augmentation is usually an outpatient procedure without an overnight hospital stay. This surgery can be completed in less than two hours and involves incisions under your breasts, arms, or around your nipples. Beyond size, you’ll also need to determine your implant material (silicone or saline), which also determines your breast shape and firmness.
Sometimes breast implants may shift or deflate, or you may notice a tightening of scar tissue around your implants. Breast correction is one of the most common types of breast enhancement surgeries we perform in Rancho Mirage. This type of surgery is used to correct the size or shape of one breast to match the other for more symmetrical breasts. The average breast reduction surgery can take anywhere from 2-5 hours, though it can occasionally take longer than that. During this type of procedure, Dr. Sofonio will likely make an incision around your nipple and then downward along your breasts in the shape of a keyhole. You may need to wear a surgical bra and drainage tubes during recovery.
