GalaFLEX: Internal Support Beyond the Procedure
Dr. Sofonio takes an integrative and holistic approach to breast augmentation, moving beyond the simple goal of increased size to include superior structural support. He understands that soft tissue support with GalaFLEX is crucial for more substantial healing and better results.
In most plastic surgery procedures, compromised or weakened soft tissue is tightened; however, the tissue itself will not be stronger, and gravity will again cause the tissue to droop or sag. Clinical studies show that within ten years following surgery, around 32% - 48% of patients undergo a second surgery to revise their initial surgical results due to a recurrence of the soft tissue weakness or deficiency.
Soft tissue support (STS) is used to repair, elevate, and reinforce deficiencies where weakness or voids exist. A soft tissue support scaffold, such as GalaFLEX, provides internal support to newly lifted and tightened tissue immediately after surgery, allowing soft tissue to heal stronger.
GalaFLEX is a temporary, absorbable scaffold to strengthen, stabilize, and support weak tissue. This immediate support allows your body the time to heal and create a healthy new tissue plane. The scaffolds break down over time, much like absorbable stitches, so your body metabolizes and completely absorbs the material safely and naturally.
What Are The Benefits of GalaFLEX?
- Biologically derived, durable material
- Predictable performance
- GalaFLEX scaffolds are curated specifically to your body’s shape and needs
- Encourages new collagen formation, which is a crucial component of healthy skin tissue
During your breast augmentation, Dr. Sofonio will place the GalaFLEX scaffold under your tissue to encourage rapid cellular infiltration. This newly formed tissue is pliable yet provides strength, support, and stability to the elevated tissue. In approximately 24 months, the scaffold is completely absorbed and eliminated from the body as water and carbon dioxide through natural physiologic pathways. The remaining collagen tissue is 3-4 times the original tissue strength, giving you a truly lifted and voluminous bust.
